The Sandy Run Community Center History
Land for The Sandy Run Community Center Building was deeded by the B.H. Kaigler and T.R. Davis families on January 19,1937. It is thought that the location is on an old Indian trail. The Board of Governors consisted of representatives from five local churches: Beulah Methodist,Denny Memorial Methodist,Mt. Zion Methodist,Oak Grove Methodist, and Sandy Run Lutheran. As well as two representatives from the House Demonstration Club. The property was deeded to Calhoun County School District #1 on August 22,1953. On December 31,1953 the property was deeded to The Sandy Run Community Center for the grand sum of $5.00! The original building built in the 1930s was made of logs and handmade bricks. The chimney was preserved and is in the current building which was constructed in 1966. An ADA equipped restroom is our newest addition along with two new tankless hot water heaters! Throughout the years The Sandy Run Community Center has had numerous events. This includes Square Dancing,Family Reunions,Community Events and Activities,Wedding Receptions,Baby and Bridal Showers,Birthday Parties,Girl and Boy Scout meetings,Children's Program,Fundraisers,Church Meetings,Crime Watch Meetings,Ladies Night Bingo, and Various Community Organizations Meetings.
